Dr. Platzman has been deeply involved in the art world as an art historian, art collector, art dealer, art advisor, and art investor for the last 20 years.   He authored the definitive text on Cézanne’s Self Portraits published by Thames and Hudson and the University of California Press and founded his own firm, Addison Fine Arts, in 1999.    Located in Pacific Heights in San Francisco, Addison Fine Arts is a discrete private art gallery and art advisory service, sourcing paintings, drawings, and sculpture from private individuals, galleries (local and international),  and auction (New York, London, Paris, and Hong Kong).

Dr. Platzman has bought and sold artwork across multiple collecting categories- from Impressionist and Modern to Post-War and Contemporary Art- for private collectors and public institutions at the highest levels.     His public museum clients include:  Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Dallas Museum of Art, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, and Yale University Art Gallery.

As an art investor, Dr. Platzman has both privately raised capital and deployed personal equity to take advantage of the inherent inefficiencies of the art market and to opportunistically acquire distressed art assets on a short and long term basis.   He has also advised banks, family offices, as well as high net worth individuals, on loans using art as collateral.
